Hyderabadi haleem is a type of haleem popular in the Indian city Hyderabad. Haleem is a stew composed of meat, lentils and pounded wheat made into a thick paste. It is originally an Arabic dish and was introduced to the Hyderabad State by the Chaush people during the rule of the Nizams (the former rulers of Hyderabad State). Local traditional spices helped in evolving a unique Hyderabadi haleem that became popular among the native Hyderabadi Muslims by the 19th-century.
The biscuits were first baked on the demand of the last Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan, who wanted a snack that was a little sweet and a little salty. Today, the evening chai is incomplete without these biscuits anywhere in the city. and Its creation is also credited to dietitians of the Osmania General Hospital. The unique taste of the Osmania appealed to the many patients and doctors later it caught attention from the visitors. Soon after it was sold at the cafes in the vicinity of the Hospital demanding the bakers in the city to add the item in the menu along with the Irani chai.
